The Bill Chaloner Memorial Award
Professor W.G (Bill) Chaloner FRS (1928 – 2016) was an inspiring and talented scientist who dedicated his life to both teaching and research in a range of botanical and earth sciences. He taught widely throughout the University of London including at both Bedford and Royal Holloway and he was an inspirational lecturer and research supervisor, specialising in botany, palaeobotany, palynology and global change, including Quaternary studies.
This Award will enhance vital research and training by enabling research students (undergraduate or postgraduate) to interact with other scientists across the world, through conferences, visits to other research groups, to museums, through field and laboratory studies, and will be used to further scholarship in these areas. The recipients will be decided upon by representatives from both the biological and earth sciences community.
Our goal is to raise over £10,000 in Bill’s name to establish an award that will especially benefit outstanding research students and support research for many years to come, and we would like your help.
It is especially important for young scientists to meet to present and develop their research. They are the game-changers of the future, who will then inspire generations of students, produce globally significant research and make discoveries that will change the world.
