Description
The Inspire Project 10 Year Initiative

Community Action's 10 Year Anniversary Initiative, part of Student Volunteering Week 2013

Student Volunteering Week 2013 this year is providing the backdrop for our special 10 Year Anniversary Initiative which will be aiming to help brighten up one of Runnymede’s identified deprived estates.

Community Action was launched by Royal Holloway in 2002 with a mandate to encourage students from the college to get involved with serving their local community. This year we are celebrating 10 years of action in the community by running an initiative called ‘The Inspire Project’ to support local residents on the Forest Estate in Englefield Green.

The idea is to create a mixture of planters, either hanging baskets or potted plants to offer each house (400) on the estate and brighten up the area which has become known as an underprivileged location, bringing a sense of future hope and anticipation to the estate.

We are looking to run this initiative in collaboration with a multiagency scheme which has recently launched the Forest Estate Community Hub located in the middle of the estate. We would be looking to recruit volunteers to create panters (hanging baskets and potted plants) and deliver to houses within the estate that have confirmed they would like to display one at the front of their house. We would look to have a label with each one which refers to Community Actions’ 10 Year Anniversary.

This initiative is being supported by RHUL.
