Doctoral School Open meetings


 

What is the Doctoral School Open Meeting?

The Doctoral School hosts a termly online Doctoral School Open Meeting chaired by Professor Ken Badcock, the Dean of the Doctoral School, to give you the opportunity to find out more about what is going on in the Doctoral School, to provide feedback on the development of the PGR provision at Royal Holloway and to discuss areas that impact you as a postgraduate researcher at Royal Holloway.  The School Directors of PGR Education, Alex Borrett (Doctoral School Manager) and Laura Christie (Doctoral School Training and Development Manager) will all be in attendance to aid the discussions.

What impact can attending the meeting have?

As a result of points raised at the last Open Meeting in February for example, the Doctoral School launched the Doctoral School Research Awards - so your input has real impact.  

What is the key topic of discussion of the Open Meeting on 16 November?

This meeting's key topic of discussion is 'Employabilty' e.g.:

  1. What skills would you like to develop as part of your research degree to help prepare yourself for your career?
  2. What employability experience opportunities would help you prepare for your career after your research degree e.g. placements / mentoring / speakers?
  3.  The Doctoral School is piloting a PGR Career Enhancement Placement Scheme this year.  What would encourage you to do a placement?  What would discourage you?
  4. What support from the Careers service would you find useful?

We are delighted that Doreen Thompson-Addo from Royal Holloway's Career Service will join us at the meeting.

The meeting in November will be held online and a meeting link will be sent to your Royal Holloway email address at least a week beforehand.
