What is the Doctoral School Open Meeting?
The Doctoral School hosts a termly online Doctoral School Open Meeting chaired by Professor Ken Badcock, the Dean of the Doctoral School, to give you the opportunity to find out more about what is going on in the Doctoral School, to provide feedback on the development of the PGR provision at Royal Holloway and to discuss areas that impact you as a postgraduate researcher at Royal Holloway. The School Directors of PGR Education, Alex Borrett (Doctoral School Manager) and Laura Christie (Doctoral School Training and Development Manager) will all be in attendance to aid the discussions.
What impact can attending the meeting have?
As a result of points raised at the last Open Meeting in February, the Doctoral School launched the Doctoral School Research Awards - so your input has real impact. The key topic of discussion at the last meeting was 'Training for PGRs'.

What is the key topic of discussion of the Open Meeting on 31 May?
This meeting's key topic of discussion is 'Research culture / community' e.g.:
- What does the term ‘research culture’ mean to you?
- What does a strong research culture at Royal Holloway look like?
- The Directors of PGR Education work hard to facilitate opportunities / events to enrich the research culture but these are not always well attended. What are the barriers to you participating in these groups / events?
- How do you / can you contribute to your School’s / the College’s research culture?
