EU Hub

Welcome to our EU Hub - the place to find the latest updates, information and guidance about the UK's leave from the EU.

Royal Holloway, University of London is one of the UK’s most international universities. We value different perspectives and are strengthened by diversity.

The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement, which was made between the UK and the EU. (Separate agreements were made between the UK and Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland). These agreements became law in the UK under the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020. As of 1 January 2021 the transition period has ended and there are new rules in place that may affect you as a student.

Important information on visas, travelling to the UK and arrivals - information for new students joining Royal Holloway in September 2021

If you are applying for a Student visa to enter the UK and study with us, you should not travel to the UK in advance of receiving a decision on that application.

This includes entering the UK with only your passport as a visitor. Travelling to the UK without receiving your Student visa decision will cause problems with your ability to enrol at Royal Holloway and may require you to leave the country.

We appreciate that it is close to the start of term and that your visa application may take some time. Please be assured that we have accounted for this and you will be able to start your programme remotely and engage with College activities in your home country up until you are able to travel. Find out more.

If you have leave granted under the EU Settlement Scheme (settled or pre-settled status), or you have made a valid application under the EU Settlement Scheme that is still pending a decision, you can travel to the UK freely under the terms of your leave without a visa. Please note that if you are going to be late arriving to the UK, and arrive after 1 October 2021, you must travel using your passport as national ID cards will not be accepted after that date.

If you have any questions regarding your visa, or you think you may have already entered without your Student visa, please contact internationaladvice@royalholloway.ac.uk. If you have any other general enquiries regarding your starting at the College please contact international@royalholloway.ac.uk
