Academic Skills

Academic Skills enable taught Royal Holloway students to develop and enhance their learning to achieve academic success. We recently shortened our name - you may have previously known us as the Centre for the Development of Academic Skills, or CeDAS. Despite the update, we are pleased to still offer the same services below.

Academic Skills

Our team of dedicated Learning Developers provide free, friendly, and confidential support for all taught students.

We offer 1:1 tutorials, drop-ins and workshops. These activities, delivered both online and in-person, help develop your academic writing and communication, develop your maths, stats, and numeracy, and develop your skills for studying independently.

We also offer a range of self-study resources, some of which include advice on preparing for and taking exams.

To find out more, please visit our Skills for Academic Success Moodle page.

Supporting you as you begin your studies

Academic Skills has worked with Royal Holloway students to produce a Moodle self-study course full of their advice and perspectives on how to defeat imposter syndrome and become a successful Royal Holloway student.

Using the module is optional and you can access it as much or as often as is useful for you.

Maths Café

Visit the pre-exam Maths & Stats drop-ins between 30 April to 15 May in Bedford-0-05 from Monday to Friday, 11:00 to 14:00.

Come to our annual Maths Café and bring your Maths and/or statistics questions. These pre exam drop in sessions offer structured support for students seeking clarification on Maths and Statistics topics. Academic Skills staff and lecturers will be available to assist with questions relating to past papers, lecture material, coursework, and quantitative aspects of projects or dissertations.

These drop-in sessions are delivered by Academic Skills staff and lecturers volunteering their time. Please see the schedule on the Moodle site for lecturer availability.

No booking is required, and students will be seen on a first come, first served basis. Light refreshments will be provided, and the space may also be used for independent study during quieter periods.
