18+ Student Oyster Card

What is the 18+ Student Oyster Photocard?

The 18+ Student Oyster Photocard is a special Oyster Card that gives you a 30% discount on the cost of your travel in Greater London. The card is meant for students who live in London during term time and use London Underground services to travel to and from lectures during the week, e.g. commuting students.

Can I get one?

Not all students at Royal Holloway are eligible for the 18+ Student Oyster Photocard, so make sure you read this section carefully.

To be eligible for the 18+ Student Oyster Card you must be:

  • 18 or over
  • In full-time education and fully enrolled at Royal Holloway.
  • Living in London during term time or on a compulsory work placement in London as part of your course.

If you’re living in College accommodation or the local area around Royal Holloway (e.g. Egham, Englefield Green or Staines) then you won’t be eligible as you don’t need the Oyster Card to commute to and from lectures.

You might also be eligible if you’re studying part time and receiving an access bursary. If you think this might apply to you then please check with the Student Services Centre team before applying.

I'm on a year in business, am I eligible?

No. Transport for London specify that to be eligible for the 18+ Student Oyster Photocard, students must be on a mandatory work placement in London and engaging in 15 hours of tuition led or structured learning. As the year in business is optional and not a prerequisite requirement of your course, you fail to meet the criteria outlined by Transport for London. Additionally, as you are on a year in business, you do not meet the required 15 hours of tuition or structured learning hours.

For further information, please see Transport for London's placement establishment terms and conditions
