From Halls to Home

Moving from Halls of Residence into privately-rented accommodation in Egham or Englefield Green

The end of the summer term is probably when you’ll start preparing to move out of Halls and into a local house share with other students. Below you can find a series of videos with handy tips and helpful reminders about how to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Bridge the Gap

In this first video, we cover the essentials about checking out of Halls, removing or storing your belongings, and entering your new property for the first time. You can also find information about bedrooms that are available on campus during the summer vacation period on this page and how to get help with private sector accommodation here.

Boss the bills and the bins

In this video, hear from your Students’ Union President, Kate Roberts (20/21) about the practicalities of sorting out your bills and bin collections when living in the local community.

Be a good neighbour

SU Vice President Wellbeing & Diversity, Henn Warwick (20/21), sets the scene for community living, with Royal Holloway staff members providing information in this video about how we’re supporting you to establish and maintain good relationships with your fellow locals.

Balance the chores and the volume

This final video covers what you’ll need to do to keep on top of keeping your house safe and clean between you, and an important reminder about expectations regarding noise from your property.
