Exam support

Find out how you can access support during your exams and assessments.

The Summer Term Assessment Period will run from Tuesday 30 April to Friday 31 May.

Important information to remember

Right place, right time

  • All invigilated in person exams will take place on our Egham campus and will begin either at 9.30am or 2pm.
  • Please arrive at the exam venue at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam so you can get ready and make sure you have everything you need.
  • Find your venue before the day of your exam to avoid stress on the day!

No ID, no exam

  • You must bring your Student ID Card or valid photo ID with you to every exam. If you don’t present a valid form of photo ID you will be unable to sit the exam. Failing to sit an exam because you didn’t have ID won’t count as an extenuating circumstance.
  • If you have lost or damaged your Student ID Card, please request a replacement from the Student Services Centre in advance.
  • If you arrive and realise you have forgotten to bring any ID, there will be a helpdesk available for you to get a temporary ID for your exam. The helpdesk will open one Thirty minutes before exams start and close thirty minutes after an exam starts. Any exam time lost while getting a temporary ID will not be given back during your exam.
  • If you forget or lose your card during the assessment period, the following forms of in-date photo ID will be accepted:
    • Valid Passport
    • Photo ID driving licence
    • Government-issued national photo ID card.

Photos of a form of ID or your Student ID card on your phone will not be accepted.

Your personal candidate number

  • You must know or bring your candidate number to every exam. This is a confidential number which you will be asked to use in place of your name so that your work can be marked anonymously. It changes every year and you can find it on Campus Connect.

Unplug

  • Remember to turn off your devices and put them in your bag before entering the exam venue. Getting caught with one will result in penalties of varying severity.

We understand that the exam and assessment period can be an anxious time, but there are people and resources available who can help and support you so that you can succeed in your goals. Find out more about accessing support below.

CeDAS

CeDAS, the Centre for the Development of Academic Skills, can help you to improve your exam techniques and help you with exam-related maths or stats questions. They offer group sessions, one-to-one tutorials, drop-ins and a range of self-study resources all tailored towards your subject area. Discover more

You can also check out this podcast episode that CeDAS and former VP Education at Royal Holloway Students' Union Maia Jarvis hosted on Secrets to Exam Success.

Wellbeing

Whilst completing assessments and revising for exams it’s important to remember to look after your mental health and wellbeing – try to take regular breaks and get outside as much as possible. We all manage and respond to stress and anxiety in different ways, however, if you are particularly concerned about your wellbeing, or that of a friend, please don’t hesitate to reach out and speak directly to our Wellbeing team. Library

Our Library offers a variety of study spaces, reading lists, course materials such as text books, as well library loan laptops. Additionally, Founder's Reading Room is open for individual, silent study. It can be accessed via the South Tower and will be open 24 hours a day providing you with a place to study overnight when the Emily Wilding Davison building is closed.

This year, the Library is also reintroducing their Library@-Scheme, which identifies spaces on campus for students to use as additional study spaces outside of the Library during the Summer revision and exam period. Visit their pages to view over 1500 additional study spaces.
