Social Science PhD students are eligible for funding from the Social Science Impact Accelerator (SSIA) to support public engagement activities and placements. You must have approval from your supervisor and have at least 6 months until your submission deadline (you are not eligible if you have already submitted your thesis).
Public engagement bursaries
Up to £3,000 of funding for PhD students to promote their research or impact activity and engage with new audiences outside of academia.
Placements
PhD students can apply for 1-3 month full-time placements, elevating their development, career prospects, and the University's social science impact (full-time or part-time options available). Students benefit from a UKRI-rate stipend (£400/week) and a travel and expenses budget (up to £200/week). We ask that partnerships are secured before applying—our team can assist if needed.
The deadline for the next round of funding is Friday 20 September 2024. Subsequent rounds will be in January 2025 (Placements) and March 2025 (Public Engagement Bursaries). Please contact Emily Gow at SocialScienceImpactrhul.ac.uk if you have questions or need help with your application.
