The MPLS Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) is offering a two-day, all expenses paid, residential workshop for candidates who might not normally consider applying to Oxford to do a PhD. We recognise that the name Oxford carries with it many associations, not all of them positive for everyone, and we would like to lift the lid and demystify Oxford to encourage applications from a more diverse range of students. We have space for up to 20 potential applicants to come to Oxford, meet the people, find out more about the funding packages available, the programmes within the DTC, the application process, and explore the city itself so that if and when they return, Oxford will feel a familiar and welcoming place. We will reimburse travel costs and provide accommodation and all meals free of charge during the workshop. This workshop is for students currently resident in the UK, but not necessarily UK nationals, as it is an in-person workshop. We will give priority to students from under-represented groups at Oxford and you can see a list of these on the application form itself. We’re delighted to say that one of the candidates who came to last year’s workshop will be joining us in 2024, another was successful in getting a PhD place at Bristol and those are just the ones we know about.
We have a short video featuring attendees from last year’s event which I hope will give a flavour of what the event is like https://youtu.be/SbntJUCynU0

We look forward to receiving applications by 11th March.
