Current PhD student Aine Bennett (Politics and International Relations) has been awarded a PhD Public Engagement Bursary by the Social Science Impact Accelerator.
This project will support frontline asylum support organisations to better address issues of gender and sexuality in their services. Organisations that work with a diverse range of migrants have varying degrees of confidence in supporting LGBTQ+ people and accounting for gender. This project will help improve services through research-based education and peer-to-peer discussion. This will primarily take place through a workshop that will bring together practitioners from across the asylum support sector with researchers and an advocacy organisation. The workshop will include research presentations on issues facing LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum and masculinities in the migrants’ rights sector, as well as a presentation from Migrants Rights Network, a campaigning charity. These presentations will inform a design-led discussion between participants about the specific issues faced in their organisations. The project will also foster ongoing collaboration and discussion by building connections between practitioners, researchers and campaigners.
Congratulations Aine!
