Do you have a deadline coming up or a piece of writing you’d like to make a start on? Do you have hundreds of small tasks you’ve been putting off but need to get done? Do you just need some space and time to think through your ideas and write notes about what you’ve read so you can discuss things a little more confidently with your supervisor?
Get Stuff Done is a weekly two-hour online session providing a friendly and constructive environment in which to meet like-minded peers, discuss writing or motivational challenges, and work in a focused way without distractions. We’ll begin by setting some goals and doing some writing warm-up exercises, and then we’ll have an hour and a half of dedicated focus time. At the end we’ll come back together and chat about the experience, whether we met our individual goals, and what the rest of the day has in store. The sessions will start on Wednesday 17 May and will initially last until the end of July. We’ll have a break during August and resume at the start of the new academic year, depending on demand.
Everyone is welcome to attend the sessions. Bring with you a piece of work: a chapter, article, presentation, data analysis, or feedback from your supervisor. Any task that would benefit from focused time and motivation from your peers is appropriate.
It’s a good idea to prepare your work station before you begin so that you can focus when you need to. Get comfortable, make sure your chair and lighting are well set up, and line up the coffee/tea/water and motivational snacks ready for some focused productivity. If practical, set your phone and email to silent so you can concentrate on the task at hand.
