The removal of the testing facility, which was in the Picture Gallery last year, gave the team the chance to carry out some restoration work before the Gallery re-opens. Conservators cleaned and made small repairs to the historic varnished wallpaper (which was installed in 1907).
The chandeliers in the Picture Gallery were also cleaned. They were lowered to allow for easy access, but towers and extended vacuums were also used to reach all areas. The floor was also refurbished by being sanded down and varnished. Overall, it took ten conservators two weeks to carry out the work.
