This is an opportunity to convey what’s interesting about your research, and why it matters, to an interested local lay audience. You can start to establish a public engagement reputation and facilitate a dialogue between the public and researchers.
The first ‘Hub’s Holloway Hour’ talks given in March by Physics research students Adriana Dias and Rob Smith with Dr. Alexander Deisting were a great success. Adriana had this to say, "I found the event extremely rewarding and I hope more talks can happen in the future. It was really nice to be able to share my research with people who live so close to the university but may not be aware of the work that happens on campus. Also, Willy and all the organisation team were lovely, welcoming and provided everything we needed in order to have a successful event." There is a follow-up planned in July, and we are inviting applications. The format is for two PhD students (each to talk for about 20 minutes) to come with their supervisor/s who will introduce the overall theme, and there is also time for questions. To apply to be a speaker at the Hub’s Holloway Hour in July, tell us (1) your discipline (e.g. History, Biochemistry, Literature etc.) (2) your PhD research title (3) the simple title you would give for your talk, and (4) a short abstract, about 100 words. The deadline for application is 13 June. You apply, we'll arrange everything else.
