The Annette Lawson Charitable Trust is offering small grants to help assist PhD students in the social sciences.
The AL Charitable Trust is a 30-year-old educational foundation promoting gender research. This year a limited number of grants of up to £1,000 are available for doctoral students working on projects relating to the theme of Success Stories: Women and Health.

In particular, the Trust invites applications for small grants:
- To enable research in the pursuit of a PhD project
- To help fund travel, interviewing, or media connected with PhD research
- To contribute towards writing-up costs for a PhD dissertation

Call details: In 2021, women were at the forefront of major scientific breakthroughs. The teams that developed the most widely used vaccines against Covid-19, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer, were led by female scientists. Although we are familiar with the many reasons why such achievements by women have historically been overlooked, misrepresented or silenced, we hear less about women’s success stories. This call seeks to excavate women’s participation in knowledge production in the field of health. Health is conceived broadly, to include public health, mental health, environmental health, and vernacular medical and healing practices. Whichever aspect of health is highlighted in the projects that we fund, we are interested in feminist work that moves beyond highlighting structures of exclusion to explore the ways in which women’s achievements, past and present, can be recovered.
