Royal Holloway provides a range of training opportunities to support personal and professional development throughout your time here. As part of our Researcher Development Programme, you will be supported to enhance your existing skills and develop new skills to help you succeed in your PhD studies and beyond. This includes helping you directly with your PhD, in research methods, and for employability within and outside academia.
To make the most of your research degree studies, you need to develop a range of skills that not only help with the process of completing the PhD, but that will help the development of your future career, in whatever field that may be. Widely applicable skills training is an important part of the process of preparing yourself for future employment and for using the research knowledge and skills you will have acquired for the benefit of society. Employers look for people with skills that can be applied in a work environment and, when they interview you, will ask you about much more than just the details of your research.
We have recently gathered together our training in one brochure which you can view here.
Other than workshops and webinars we also have a number of subscriptions to online resources such as Datacamp, the Alternative Guide to Funding Online, PhD videos and Linkedin Learning.
You can book onto all RDP courses and access the resources though the Researcher development programme Moodle site.
My colleague, Laura Shoulder, and myself are always happy to hear from you with suggestions and feedback on the programme. We do recommend you take some time to look at the Moodle site to view all the opportunities that you may like to take advantage of at some point during your studies.
