This month the BBC reported on the case of Salma al-Shehab, a University of Leeds PhD research student who was sentenced to a 34 year prison sentence in Saudi Arabia for tweets she had posted before her trip that called for reforms and release of activists in the country. Travellers from Royal Holloway will be reminded in new travel risk assessment templates and an updated online briefing video from the HSO to be diligent in researching travel destinations to identify countries that consider and respond negatively to open government criticism and to give thought as to whether any views they have expressed in the public domain might put them at similar risk. Salam's story can be read here.
