IBM - A Day in the life of a Graduate Consultant

Monday 18 November 1-2pm, Event Space Davison Building

IBM Consultants provide valuable business advice and expertise to clients so they can make smarter business decisions. A successful consultant is regarded by clients as a trusted business advisor who, through their understanding of the client, their industry and business, brings innovative solutions to the client’s business problems.

Alumni, Owen Rogan (Royal Holloway 2024 BS Business & Management) and Rares-Teodor Ciucur (Uni of Manchester 2022, BS Computer Science & Kings College London, 2024 MS Cyber Security) will lead the session.

Join them for an exclusive insight into the world of consulting as they share their experiences as graduate consultants at IBM. They will introduce IBM, discuss their personal journeys and partnership with Royal Holloway University of London, and provide a realistic glimpse into what it's like to be a consultant, covering topics such as a typical day in their lives, the skills required for success, and the application process.

This is the first of three sessions, one in person and two virtual (beginning of 2025 and Spring Term), focused towards those who identify as female or non-binary, who are interested in a career in technology and giving them the confidence to get into the working world.

Content covered could include, could cover subjects such as business etiquette, networking, personal branding, imposter syndrome, this will be confirmed shortly.

You’ll receive an introduction to the session and VMO2, followed by a 45-minute workshop with group breakouts and a final Q&A with the VMO2 representative. They’ll be a branded workbook that will be shared ahead of the session with resources and reflection tasks.

As a graduate joining BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, you’ll enter one of three practices within our business - Engineering, Project Management or Consulting:As a Graduate Engineer, you will be part of a project team who will coach you on the day to day skills required to work closely with our customers, both internal and external.In our Digital Intelligence business, the role of a Project Manager is to harness the expertise of our talented and highly experienced Programme Managers, Service Delivery Managers and Planning, Monitoring and Control professionals to successfully deliver a mixture of business and technical Projects, Programmes and IT Services.As a consultant, you will work directly with clients on a range of projects depending on your skills, interests and our client's current business needs. You will usually work on client premises which means you will be a clear communicator who can build rapport quickly, and be able to enthusiastically and effectively solve client problems. The UK Technology Tracker has dates for most of the UK's major graduate programmes, placements, internships and insight days and helps you keep track of the opening and closing dates.

Complete a virtual project for digital transformation consultancy Publicis Sapient

Build your skills in commercial awareness and research, and get some great text for your CV at the end!

In this online project you’ll create a short written client pitch. Using a template to guide you, you will create an idea for a digital product or service using augmented reality or ChatGPT, for a potential client in the retail sector. Everyone who completes the task by the end of the year will have the opportunity to attend a useful online feedback session with Publicis Sapient on an anonymised sample of student projects.
