What is an Optional Resit?
If you have successfully completed your studies this year, or can progress to the next academic year, you may be able to retake assessments to improve your mark.
There are 2 types of retake in these circumstances: Resits and First Sits/Uncapped Resits.
What is the difference between a Resit and a First Sit/Uncapped Resit?
Resit
A further opportunity to attempt an assessment but the mark will be capped at 40% for UG and 50% for PGT students. This will be the final attempt at the assessment. Assuming you have progressed to the next year of study this resit can only be taken in the next academic year. No teaching is included but your School will make appropriate materials available to you via Moodle.
Uncapped Resit (PGT)
A further opportunity to attempt an assessment usually offered as a result of accepted Extenuating Circumstances. It will be indicated by UR after your module mark on Campus Connect (via the Statement of Results). The mark will not be capped. The options of when to take the resit will be outlined in the My Studies area on Campus Connect, under the progression section. No teaching is included but your School will make appropriate materials available to you via Moodle.
First Sit (UG)
A further opportunity to attempt an assessment usually offered as a result of accepted Extenuating Circumstances. A First Sit will be indicated by FS after your module mark on Campus Connect (via the Statement of Results). The mark will not be capped. This is usually taken in the Summer Vacation Assessment Period (SVAP). No teaching is included but your School will make appropriate materials available to you via Moodle.
How do I register for Resits/First Sits?
You should speak with your personal tutor or contact your School Helpdesk to discuss your results in the first instance to confirm what, if anything, you can retake. First Sits will usually only be offered in the next available assessment window and once agreed with your school you must follow the advice given in your progression text on Campus Connect.
What if I choose not to resit?
Non-Finalists
If you choose not to resit any assessments, you can progress into the next academic year with your current marks. You do not need to take any further action.
Finalists
If you are in your final year, and choose not to resit, you do not need to take any further action
Queries and Advice
If you are unsure whether resitting is the best option for you, please contact your School Helpdesk in the first instance. If appropriate, they will be able to connect you with the appropriate academic to advise you.
If you are unsure about how to register your decision on Campus Connect please contact Student Administration.
Appeals
If you have a question about your results or progression decision, please contact your School Administration team in the first instance. If this does not resolve the issue and you are considering submitting an academic appeal, you should consult the Appeals Webpages for full details on the appeals process. An appeal may only be submitted on certain limited grounds.
The deadline to appeal for Undergraduates is 5pm on Wednesday 24 July 2024.
