CTC Poetry

MA Poetic Practice Event

In January 2019, Briony Hughes, Cat Chong, E.P. Jenkins, Laura Hellon, Martina Krajňáková, Sophie Shepherd, and Tiffany Charrington, the six students on the MA Poetic Practice course, formed a poetry collective. Throughout the year they have published work together, curated events, and interact with the London poetry scene as the course is taught out of Bedford Square in Bloomsbury, London. Their work can be found in the National Poetry Library, Senate House Library, the BookArtBookShop, and at the Small Publishers Fair. Being granted the SU Opportunities fund allowed them to create a 2019 anthology of poetry which was launched within the CTC festival during Freshers Week. Both alumni and lecturers of the course spoke at the event, reading their own work alongside the students. It was fantastic to have Professor Redell Olsen, Sarah Cave, JD Howse, Karen Sandu, Sarah Dawson, and Nisha Ramayya each reading work that has influenced and impacted students’ own practice over the last year.

The CTC anthology consists of over 60 pages of work created throughout the students’ time on the course and was sold at the event with other pamphlets, collections, and other published works. The funding also allowed the collective to design a website to further promote their work as well as the MA Poetic Practice course.
