HM Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty The Queen 1926 - 2022

Professor Ken Badcock, Interim Principal of Royal Holloway, University of London, has paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen following the announcement of her death. He said:

“We stand united with the nation and communities around the world as together we mourn the loss of one of history’s most admired and respected figures. Her Majesty The Queen stood as a beacon of integrity and wisdom throughout her long reign. As well as a leader of our nation, 15 realms around the world and a highly regarded figure on the international stage, Her Majesty was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

"Her Majesty honoured the university with two visits. The first visit was in 1986 when, as part of the centenary celebrations of the foundation of the Royal Holloway College, she inaugurated the newly merged Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, and opened the new Earth Sciences Building (Queen’s Building).

“It was our privilege to host Her Majesty again in 2014 when she visited our Egham campus, with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, to recognise our department of music’s exceptionally high quality of research and teaching. The visit celebrated the Diamond Jubilee Regius Professorship of Music, awarded by the Queen in 2013 to Prof. Julian Johnson.

“Her death will be mourned by the students, staff and our wider community at Royal Holloway, University of London.

“We offer our deepest condolences to a family who have lost a loved one.”
