Release of Results

These pages outline the arrangements for students receiving their results for the 2019/20 academic year for information on the current academic year please click here.

First Year Undergraduates

When will I find out if I have passed or failed my first year?

The outcome of your first year will be released on Tuesday 14 July at 10am through Campus Connect.

How can I view my outcome and what does it mean?

To view your outcome, log into Campus Connect and click on the ’My studies’ tab. On this page, you will see the title ‘Progression’, click on this section to find the outcome of your first year assessments.

In light of COVID-19, first year undergraduate students had some, or all, of their assessments replaced with a ‘portfolio’ type assessment which was designed to return a mark of pass or fail. This means that you will not receive results in the form of numeric marks this year. Instead you will receive confirmation of whether you have passed the year and may progress to year 2, or if you have failed an element and cannot currently progress.

If you are not yet able to progress you may be given the option to complete retakes in line with the element(s) of the courses or portfolio that you failed. For further information please see the Retaking Assessments webpages. Further details on what the retake will involve will also be available through your School.

In some cases, informal marks from your first year may also be available; please contact your School Helpdesk for further information on what is available.

What do my results mean?

The overall outcome of the year indicates whether or not you can progress to the next year of study. If you are not currently able to progress, you may be given the option to complete retakes in the courses you failed. For further information please see Retaking Assessments.

Each grade displayed is the final overall percentage that you’ve achieved for each course, this includes all exams or alternative assessments, coursework and practical assignments.

You cannot view individual essay or exam results on Campus Connect. If you’d like a further breakdown of your results or feedback please contact your School Helpdesk.

How do I work out my year average, including the Best 90 calculations?

Your year average will be calculated as a weighted average of your course marks, weighted according to the credit value of the course. E.g. a 30 credit course is worth twice a 15 credit course.

In 2019/20 the Best 90 Policy for Second & Non-Finalist Third Year students mean that the year average that will be used in calculating your final average (when you come to be awarded) will exclude the worst 30 credits of your course marks. Please see the Emergency Regulations for further information.

One possible outcome is the granting of the First-Sit or Uncapped Resit. This would be indicated via a code with your individual course marks on Campus Connect.

Graduation

Undergraduate Graduation

If you are a final year undergraduate and you successfully completed your final year assessments to the required standard, you will be awarded your degree in August. We have taken the difficult decision to postpone the formal graduation ceremonies that would normally be held on campus in July.

Our goal is instead to offer an alternative graduation ceremony, on campus, at some point in the next academic year for students who have complete their studies in July 2020.

Postgraduate Graduation

As you may be aware, due to Covid-19, July Graduation Ceremonies were postponed.  The pandemic continues to create a high degree of uncertainty and so we are not yet able to advise on the position in relation to Winter Graduations, which would normally be held in December.  We understand how important the ceremonies are to our students but, as you would expect, we must also take into account the restrictions in place to help to keep us all safe.

In the event that face-to-face, on campus, ceremonies cannot be held, please be assured that we will ensure all students who would have participated in the Winter Graduation Ceremonies continue to receive their degree certificate.  We will keep you informed of our plans as and when the situation in relation to COVID-19 becomes more stable.
