Portering - Music

For the moving of College-owned music equipment

Need help?

There may be occasions where musical equipment and instruments need to be transported from one space to another. Students or unauthorised staff are not permitted to move large equipment themselves, so the College’s Estates and Porter team are able to assist with this.

So, whether you need to move a percussion instrument for a performance lecture or a PA system for a live performance, please complete this short form at least 7 working days beforehand (link embedded).

Important information

  • Requests are only to be made during weekdays (Monday – Friday).
  • You must ensure that your move is requested for no earlier than 8.30am and not later than 3pm to avoid clashes with existing regular timetabled setups. It always best to give us a specific time.
  • A separate form must be completed if you require the moved instruments to be returned to a desired location. Failure to do this will mean that the items moved will remain there.
  • Please be aware that the portering team are only to move instruments owned by the College. Personal items can only be moved unless an insurance and disclaimer form are received with a request to move student owned equipment. Please contact James.Mark@rhul.ac.uk (Music Performance Administrator) for further details.
  • You must ensure that any items requested for moving are clearly labelled (i.e. if you require an xylophone to be moved, then please label it with a PLEASE TAKE THIS ticket; do not use adhesive tape or tac) and situated in clear view of the porters. These tickets can be found in the Concert Office pigeonhole (Department of Music, Wettons Terrace) and should be placed on / attached to each item being moved.
  • Requests made later than 5 days before the date of commencement will not be processed.

If you have any questions regarding the form please contact the Concert Office on 01784 443 853 or email James.Mark@rhul.ac.uk (Music Performance Administrator).
