Studying abroad

Opportunities to study abroad as part of your Royal Holloway Degree

Undergraduate

For undergraduate music students interested in a year abroad, there are several options available. These include the opportunity to study for a year at one of the college’s international exchange partner institutions. Several music students have benefitted from this scheme in the past, in some cases studying a different discipline (e.g. Classics), as music-focused programmes are not always available.

The Department of Music also has a European exchange partnership with Trinity College Dublin, with hopes to make further partnerships with other universities across Europe in the near future. An exchange like this would involve taking the whole of your second year of undergraduate study at the partner institution before returning to Royal Holloway for your third year. First year students would need to apply through us and be selected by the partner institution. Acceptance is competitive and not automatic – although we do send students abroad most years. Please contact h.stobart@rhul.ac.uk for more details.

PhD Students

The Department of Music’s exchange partnership with Trinity College Dublin may extend to doctoral students, subject to the availability of a suitable supervisor and resources. In the area of Baroque Music, conversations are active regarding possible exchanges with Uppsala University in Sweden.
