Students have access to a wide range of teaching and learning resources via Moodle. Moodle is Royal Holloway's Virtual Learning Environment. It contains details of our modules (e.g. lecture notes and recordings, assessment, quizzes).

If you don't have access to a required Moodle page please contact the School Helpdesk.

Health and Safety Form

It is mandatory to complete a Health and Safety form (available via the Geography Moodle pages). Please note you will need to use your Royal Holloway login details to access the form.

For health and safety reasons, it is necessary for us to be aware of any circumstances which might affect your ability to carry out fieldwork, or which might affect your studies more generally whilst in the Department. This information will be will be used to advise fieldtrip leaders of any special needs/provisions which may be needed on fieldtrips, as well as to flag any issues which might be pertinent to your general welfare in the department. You will be asked if there are any changes/updates before any field trip.

Risk Assessment Forms

All field work requires a risk assessment.
The form you should complete depends on the type of work you will be completing and the destination being travelled to. Your supervisor will be able to advise which form you need.
Generally, for low risk visits to museums, conferences and other institutions you can use form RA1a if staying in the UK, and form RA1b if visiting countries deemed to be ‘safe-as-uk’ by RHUL.
For low risk visits to museums, conferences and other institutions in countries not deemed to be ‘safe-as-uk’ by RHUL form RA2 is needed.
For any other field work form RA3 is required.
There may be exceptions to this so you are advised to speak to your supervisor before starting your risk assessment.
All forms must be authorised by your supervisor.

Students: supervisors must be involved in the process and sign the form before being returned to Claire Mayers. Advice on completion can be sought from your supervisors or the Health and Safety coordinator (Claire Mayers)

Guidance documents:

The notes below are not intended to be an exhaustive list of hazards and control measures; they are to be used as an aid to completing the forms and to prompt consideration of the hazards relating to your own research and fieldwork.
