 Ceremony and guest information

Why has my Thursday 19 December at 3pm ceremony been moved to 12:30pm?

Due to fewer than expected eligible graduands registered to attend both the 3pm and 12:30pm ceremonies on Thursday 19 December, we have decided to combine both ceremonies into one at 12:30.

This change will allow graduands from the School of Engineering, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences to celebrate and enjoy the ceremony in a more lively atmosphere.

Additional purchase tickets are still available for this ceremony for any graduands wishing to invite extra guests. These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

When is my graduation ceremony taking place?

You can find the Ceremony Timetable here.

Eligible graduands have now been invited, and bookings are closed for Winter Graduation 2024.

What happens if I don't complete my programme?

If you don't complete your programme, you are not eligible for graduation.

Our Student Administration team checks the eligibility of everyone who has confirmed their attendance at graduation. Students who haven't completed their programme automatically receive refunds for any tickets they have purchased, and their attendance is cancelled.

You can find all information in the Graduation Policy.

I need a letter to support my visa application for myself or my guests to enter the UK to attend graduation

Please refer to our guidance for international students.

Where can I park?

You can find out more about Travelling to Campus here.

My guests or I have additional access arrangements

As part of the registration process you'll be asked whether yourself or any of your guests have a disability. We will then contact you to discuss their needs to make sure that appropriate seating is reserved for them in the venue.

You can find more information what to expect on the day, including maps of step-free routes of campus, on the Planning Your Day page here.

Can children attend the ceremony?

As part of the registration process you will be asked whether you are bringing any guests under the age of five to the ceremony.

Children are welcome to attend graduation but please note that the ceremonies are formal in nature and young children may become restless or unsettled during the ceremony. To ensure the enjoyment of other guests, and to avoid any disruption to the ceremony, guests with very young children will be asked to sit near the exit of the venue to allow them to leave at any time should they need to do so.

Children under the age of five do not require a guest ticket but must sit on an adult’s lap during the ceremony.

Can my guests and I stay on campus overnight?

If you would like to stay on campus with your guests we have accommodation available at the Hub. You can benefit from a 10% discount by booking through this link: https://services.royalholloway.ac.uk/BnB/RHULpromo.bnb

How long will the ceremony last?

Guests and Graduands must be in the venue 40 minutes before the ceremony start time.

Ceremonies will last approximately one hour, followed by departmental photographs lasting up to half an hour.

Receptions will run for a further hour after the conclusion of the departmental photographs.

A full timing breakdown of the day can be found on the Planning Your Day page here.

Is seating allocated?

Seats for guests are not allocated - they are available on the day on a first come, first serve basis.

Some seating is reserved for guests with access requirements. These will be clearly signposted and ushers will be on hand to guide any guests requiring accesisble seating to the appropriate area.

How can I send a message of congratulations to a family member?

You can celebrate and sharing your messages with your family and friends by using #RHGraduation on social media.

Will a post-ceremony celebration be taking place?

Post-ceremony receptions will take place in either the Founder's Dining Hall, following the departmental photographs.
