Microsoft Office & Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Office, which includes Microsoft Teams, is available for free to current Royal Holloway students with an ‘@live.rhul.ac.uk’ email address. You can use Office 365 on up to five devices, including computers, laptops, and tablets for the duration of your time here.

We provide Sophos for your personal devices. Sophos includes ransomware and banking protection, malware protection and antivirus for up to 10 computers.

Mathematica is a symbolic mathematical computation program, sometimes called a computer algebra program. It is a powerful piece of computational software, capable of building hedge fund trading websites, publishing interactive textbooks, or developing embedded image recognition algorithms.
Create an account through the Wolfram portal with your Royal Holloway email address and make sure you verify the account by clicking the confirmation link in the email, then fill in this form to apply for an activation key and receive instructions on how to download your software.
MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages.

NVivo is software that supports qualitative and mixed methods research. It lets you collect, organize, and analyze content from a number of sources.

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis. It provides data analysis for descriptive and bivariate statistics, and various prediction models.

Windows Virtual Desktop
The PC labs on campus are an important study space, and are used both for teaching and for private study. Our PC labs remain open and the College has put in significant effort to ensure they are Covid-safe but we know that it's not feasible for some students to come to campus for teaching or study.
We have created a cloud-based version of our computers called that you can access from your own devices without needing to be on campus. This includes apps like ArcGIS, Sibelius and Stata.

Visual Paradigm is a tool designed to let you to model business information systems and manage development processes. It lets you create visualisation tools for areas like software design, data modelling, business process mapping, strategic analysis, mind mapping and project scheduling using key industry modeling languages and standards.
The online diagramming tools (e.g. UML, BPMN, ArchiMate, ERD) are made available to Royal Holloway, University of London under the Academic Partner Program from Visual Paradigm Online for educational use.
