Free Software

Royal Holloway provides students with free access to several pieces of software, to help you with your studies. See more details below of what’s available, and how you can download it.

Microsoft Office & Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Office, which includes Microsoft Teams, is available for free to current Royal Holloway students with an ‘@live.rhul.ac.uk’ email address. You can use Office 365 on up to five devices, including computers, laptops, and tablets for the duration of your time here.

Download it from royalholloway.ac.uk/myaccount.

Azure Dev for Teaching

Through Microsoft's Azure Dev Tools for Teaching, you can access plenty of useful learning resources and software, including Windows 10 and 11. Log in through their sign in page using your University email address and password. Once you've accessed the site, you can search for and download software to help with your studies.

For more information on using Azure Dev Tools for Teaching, visit Microsoft's FAQ page.

ArcGIS

ArcGIS is a tool you can use to make maps and analyse data. We have introduced ‘Single Sign On’ (SSO) when using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro at the University. This allows staff and students to access both tools.

View our guidance for installing ArcGIS.

EndNote

EndNote is a piece of reference management software, used to make formatting references and bibliographies in your academic work easier. It allows you to save references from online resources, and export them into your EndNote library.

View the installation guidance and download Endnote for Windows and Mac.

Mathematica

Mathematica is a symbolic mathematical computation program, sometimes called a computer algebra program. It is a powerful piece of computational software, capable of building hedge fund trading websites, publishing interactive textbooks, or developing embedded image recognition algorithms.

MATLAB

MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages.
