Royal Holloway pride lanyards and pronoun badges

We’re delighted that Royal Holloway LGBT+ Progress flag lanyards and pronoun badges are now available for students! 800 lanyards were given out during Welcome Week 2023, and pronoun badges can be picked up from the SU Helpdesk (first floor of the SU building). They will also be handed out at events throughout the year.

Lanyards

The lanyards are meant to celebrate diversity and to express openness towards LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, etc.) people. The use of the Progress flag also explicitly includes Black and global majority people within the LGBT+ community.

Badges

The badges allow for students to share their pronouns, and indicate that as a community we understand pronouns cannot be assumed from names and appearance alone.

Resources

Any students are welcome to wear these lanyards and badges, but it is important that you also feel knowledgeable and able to support your LGBT+ peers. Some possible scenarios, and the places you can signpost for support, are as follows:

A student has been subjected to bullying/harassment due to their LGBT+ identity.

Support them to report to RHUL Be Heard or to refer to the Wellbeing team: wellbeing@rhul.ac.uk

A student is experiencing difficulties with their LGBT+ identity.

Support them to refer to Counselling: counselling@rhul.ac.uk

A student would like information about LGBT+ life on campus.

Refer to SU’s LGBT+ Society

A student wants access to support outside the University.

Refer to MindOut or Switchboard LGBT+ (LGBT+ mental health services)
