How to apply for a Bursary or Scholarship

Find out how to apply for a bursary or scholarship using the useful infromation below

Competitive Scholarships

For the majority of our competitive scholarships you need to have applied in the year before you started your course at Royal Holloway and you cannot apply once you are studying. However, the music scholarships and the sports scholarships are open to current students and further information about these, including how to apply, can be found by following the relevant link below:

Non-competitive Income-related Bursaries

For our income-related bursaries, the Royal Holloway Bursary, Access Entry Bursary and the Care Leavers and Estranged Students Bursary you do not need to make an application as your eligibility is automatically assessed each year. However, so that the Bursaries team are able to assess your eligibility you need to have completed the following steps:

  1. Have had your application means-tested by Student Finance England (SFE);
  2. Had your evidence verified by SFE;
  3. Both you and your sponsors (usually parent(s)/guardian(s) or partner) will need to have provided consent for SFE to share your household income information with Royal Holloway. Both you and your sponsors can give this consent to SFE over the phone. Their number is 0300 100 0607 and the helpline is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 8:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 4:00pm.

To ensure your bursary is paid on time you will need to have completed all of the above steps by the following dates:
 Instalment Date: Date we require your SFE Information:
 Friday 8 December 2023  Friday 10 November 2023
 Thursday 28 March 2024  Friday 23 February 2024
 Friday 7 June 2024  Friday 10 May 2024

If we do not have the required information by the above deadlines, you will still be assessed for the bursary once we have all your information. However, you will not receive the payment until the next instalment date. If there is a delay in your SFE application being completed, please contact us as early as possible so that we can help you to resolve it.

Please be aware, if we do not receive the information we need from SFE by the end of the academic year on Friday 7 June 2024 we will be unable to assess you for a bursary for the next acedemic year 2023/24, you will lose your eligibility and no retrospective payment will be made.
