In 2023 we marked twenty years of Volunteering at Royal Holloway. The Volunteering team was originally founded as “Royal Holloway Community Action” in 2003 and has supported thousands of students make a difference in the last twenty years. We celebrated this milestone in number of ways throughout the year.

In February, Professor Julie Sanders, Principal and Vice-Chancellor hosted a reception in the Picture Gallery attended by over 90 community partners, students, alumni, staff, and local officials, including the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Chair of Surrey County Council, High Sheriff of Surrey and Mayor of Runnymede.

Katie Smith, our then Volunteering Graduate Intern created an outstanding exhibition in the Davison Building featuring 12 exhibition panels and dozens of historical items relating to Royal Holloway Volunteering’s history. We also engaged our alumni community through an interactive timelinemarking significant moments in Royal Holloway Volunteering over the last two decades, and our Hub Assistants created a QR code history trail around our Egham campus and the local community.

We also held new events to connect students with our community partners, including our Volunteering Fair, where twenty partner organisations and 2,000 students attended.  Finally, we installed a mosaic originally created for the London 2012 Olympics in the Volunteering Hub.

As a team, we would like to thank everyone who supported us throughout the year, whether you attended our events, supplied memories for our timeline or took some time to investigate our exhibition and trail.

We look forward to celebrating our silver anniversary with you in 2028!
