Royal Holloway recognises that some students face different historical and current barriers when accessing higher education and work-based opportunities. Our Careers Service is committed to working towards greater equity and empowerment in the student journey. This includes providing programmes which include monetary awards, cover travel expenses, and permit flexible working hours.

The Summer Skills Placement Programme

Sign up for summer 2024 opens on Thursday 12 October 2023.

This programme aims to boost graduate outcomes through employability activities, such as tailored CV and interview feedback. In the summer, students who have completed all the activities will be able to apply for 2 or 4-week industry placements, and will be awarded a grant of £400 or £650 depending on length. Completion of this programme will also appear on your degree transcript as a voluntary module.

To be eligible for the programme, you must be a 1st or 2nd year undergraduate with one of more of the following backgrounds:

  • Registered with the Disability & Neurodivergence Team
  • Black heritage
  • Financially supported/low income backgrounds
  • First generation at university
  • Care-leavers

The Royal Holloway Mentoring Programme

Sign up is open now – follow the link below to apply!

New for the 2023-24 academic year, this programme will pair students going into their final year with a Royal Holloway alumni working in an area they would like to explore. The mentorship session will take place at your own pace, at times which suit both you and your mentor. You will schedule between 3-6 sessions with your mentor between October 2023 and May 2024, conducted as video or voice calls, depending on your preference.

2nd year students who completed the Summer Skills Placement Programme will gain early access to this programme for the whole of the Autumn term in their 3rd year. Completion of this programme will also appear on your degree transcript as a voluntary module.
