Wave of fake tax refund emails against universities


 

HM Revenue and customs (HMRC) has warned that hundred of thousands of university students in the UK have been targeted with fake tax refund emails. 

The fraudsters aim to steal students' bank details and personal information. They are using genuine looking email addresses ending in ".ac.uk" in order to trick students and avoide detection. On some emails the hackers include the recipient's name and email address in order to make the email more convincing.

Anyone targeted, should not click on any links and should report it to the IT Service desk.
