As a technology recruiter based in the vibrant city of London, I have the incredible opportunity to connect professionals with exciting technology projects across Europe. What sets my role apart is the unique exposure it offers to working directly with industry directors at some of the world’s biggest organisations.

A Typical Day

Mornings kick off with a cup of coffee and a quick scan of emails, as recruiters in London are often greeted with a bustling inbox filled with client and candidate inquiries, interview scheduling requests, and collaboration messages from hiring managers. As the day progresses, I dive into a variety of tasks, such as business development, conducting phone screens, and evaluating technical assessments to identify top talent. With London being a hub for tech innovation, I may also attend tech events, networking sessions, or meetups to stay connected with the local tech community and build relationships with potential candidates.

What attracted me to a job in recruitment?

As I finished my last exam on the 10 May 2023, I came to a decision to apply for a recruitment related role as it rewards you for the amount of effort you put in. An average accounting role can land you a £25,000-40,000 salary for your first year in employment, however if you put in the hours in recruitment you can hit 6 figures by year 2. Choosing a career path is a deeply personal decision, and for me, opting for tech recruitment over pursuing an accounting job aligns perfectly with my interests and ambitions.

Useful skills gained as an undergraduate

I had the chance to work in various industries, such as marketing, finance, and customer service, which provided me with a well-rounded perspective and enhanced my professional capabilities. These experiences honed my communication skills, fostered teamwork, and strengthened my ability to adapt to different work environments. Overall, my undergraduate experience played a crucial role in shaping my career path and prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

Some words of advice

My advice to future students keen on working in recruitment is to actively seek opportunities to develop your interpersonal and communication skills. Building strong relationships and effective networking are essential in this field. Additionally, gaining exposure to different industries and roles can provide a broader understanding of the job market and enhance your ability to match candidates with the right positions.

I applied for my current role through LinkedIn, as a LinkedIn profile gives a hiring manager more of an overall picture of yourself. I also applied through Indeed and TotalJobs but didn’t receive the same response rate.
