Why did you decide to become an Student Ambassador?

I have always enjoyed working at large scale events so I knew as soon as I joined Royal Holloway that I would love to become a student ambassador. The flexibility of the job also really appealed to me. I love how I can sign up for as many shifts a week as I want to, with the only ‘compulsory’ work being the open days. It’s great because there is no pressure to have to forfeit my studies in any way, and I am grateful to have that choice.

I can also remember the SA who gave me a tour of Royal Holloway when I first visited the campus. She was so helpful and played a huge role in solidifying my decision to put Royal Holloway as my firm university choice. Once I joined Royal Holloway, I remember thinking that I would like to be like her, positively impacting other people’s decisions. It feels so great to chat to prospective students and know that you are helping them make life changing decisions.

What jobs have you enjoyed doing most?

My favourite jobs have been the open days. Despite the early mornings, I absolutely love the buzz on campus. Since there are so many student ambassadors, working on the open days is also a brilliant way to get to know and work with new people - a valuable skill to have when joining the real workplace after university.

This past year, I’ve loved working as a Senior Ambassador. This role has allowed me to have an increased responsibility and gain a closer insight into how events are organised behind the scenes. I’ve been able to work closely with members of staff whilst also improving my ability to problem solve and show initiative. The Student Ambassador scheme offers other great promotions such as the Events Intern or being in the Widening Access Team, which also look great on your CV.

What are your future career plans?

I am interested in an Events Management career, so I have loved working with the Marketing and Communications teams. Working as a Senior Student Ambassador has helped me improve valuable skills and will stand me in great stead for my future career.

In the short term, I plan to apply for internships abroad. I know my experience with the Student Ambassador scheme will help me be proactive, organised and show initiative in any workplace, and I look forward to gaining more experience in other working environments. I have loved everything about being a student ambassador and I would recommend the job to anyone.
