My name is Kate Roberts and I am the President of the Students’ Union for the 2020/21 academic year. During these unprecedented times (yes, that phrase again) it is clear that student representation is going to be more important this year than ever before.

Your new Officer team consisting of Alissa Chohan as Vice President Education, Henn Warwick as Vice President Wellbeing & Diversity, and Lucy Brown in the new role of Vice President Societies & Sport have just finished our induction period and are jumping straight into important conversations about next year. We are working hard with the College to ensure you all receive an educational experience that is safe and of a high quality.

My year in office is definitely shaping up to be very different to how I expected, our representative work will likely be fairly reactive this year and we will be engaging with you over the year to ensure that student voice is at the heart of any decisions made. We have a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact on student life, and I am hugely excited to get started. Additionally, we will also be undertaking our usual work on key areas affecting student life, including launching a policy inquiry into student housing.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the SU building when it is safe to do so, however we are so much more than just a building. The Students’ Union changes as the lives of students change, your voice informs who we are and what we do. We are here to help you find your voice and empower you to make the changes that you want to see.

The Students’ Union has a huge range of opportunities for you to get involved with different aspects of your university experience, through academic representation, joining one of our collectives, or getting involved in one of our societies or clubs. Please do not hesitate to get in touch through presidentsu.rhul.ac.uk if you have any questions or just want to chat!

I look forward to seeing you when it is safe to do so!
