Tomorrow marks the beginning of national Student Volunteering Week, which takes place from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 February. The purpose of the week is to showcase and celebrate student volunteering, inspiring more people to get involved in bringing about positive change. Initiatives like this help to demonstrate the range of different opportunities that students all over the country are getting involved in and the difference they are making within their local community.

Over the next week we will be running a number of events to highlight the variety of volunteering opportunities available to you, whether this is getting involved in activities on campus, or helping out in the local community. Events include a Soup Kitchen in Egham Town, a Volunteering Introduction session for our Refugee Tutoring project and much more. You can find out more about the activities happening here as well as discovering our full range of volunteering opportunities on our volunteering online platform.

Volunteering is a great way to demonstrate to future employers how you have expanded your skills during your studies. Through volunteering you will have the ability to develop skills such as communication and collaboration, grow resilience and the ability to work in a team - perhaps even lead it. As part of Student Volunteering Week, applications are now open for our 2022/23 Student Leadership roles. These positions will provide you with the opportunity to lead your own project as well as being a part of an award winning leadership programme. Find out more about our Volunteering Leadership Scheme on the student intranet and apply online.

Student Volunteering Week is ultimately a chance to try something new whilst making a difference in wider society. If you’re unsure of where to start, drop by the Volunteering Hub at the Davison Building.

We look forward to seeing you at some of the events taking place over the next week.
