Over the summer we announced that, as a College, we had been successful in our bid for funding from the Government’s new Turing Scheme. The main aim of the scheme is to provide funding for UK students to take up work and study placements in over 150 international destinations across the world, including Canada, Japan and the United States.

The scheme recognises that some students are only able to take up opportunities to study, work and volunteer abroad as part of their degrees if they have access to financial support. As well as shorter term opportunities, the scheme also supports longer duration visits, including students taking degrees with an integrated year abroad, as well as those who choose to apply for a ‘year out’. As a College, we are publicising the volunteering opportunities initially and there will be more information available on placements and studying abroad soon.

For the volunteering aspect of the scheme, we are working with our international volunteering partner organisation, Challenges Abroad, to expand options for students to participate in global volunteering opportunities. Challenge Abroad run volunteering programmes around social impact, climate action, creative arts, and health and wellbeing in Thailand, Cambodia, Peru, Nepal and India.

By participating in a Turing Scheme placement, you will be provided with the chance to develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost your employability. If you are interested in taking part in the scheme within the 2021/22 academic year, or would like to find out more information, please complete our expression of interest form
