Hello and welcome to your first newsletter of the academic year. I send a newsletter to all students every Sunday throughout term-time to keep you up-to-date on what’s happening at Royal Holloway.

Whether you’re coming back to Royal Holloway after summer vacation, or are beginning your studies with us, I hope you enjoyed Welcome Week and have a very happy and productive autumn term.

Throughout the term there will be lots of opportunities to discover sports, societies and volunteering activities which help to build skills that employers look for, preparing you for the world of work. Perhaps you were one of the over 1,000 students who attended the Festival of Volunteering or 3,790 who attended the Freshers’ Festival. Throughout your time with us, I’d encourage you to discover new interests as well as continue to enjoy existing ones. You can keep up to date with what’s happening on the student intranet.

We really value your feedback, and it plays a big part in helping the College to improve your university experience. Last week, The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019, placed us at 24 in the national rankings, four places higher than last year.  We also exceeded the sector average score for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS). These league table rises are in large part the result of developments we’ve made to areas such as teaching, feedback, timetabling, resources and the campus environment, developments which came about through listening and responding to what you, our students value.

I’m proud of the close-knit community we have here at Royal Holloway. Everyone across campus wants to play their part in helping to inspire you in and out of the classroom and I’d like to wish you all success in all the goals you set for yourself this academic year.
