It's the last week of term and nearly the winter vacation. The term might be ending soon but this week will be a busy one as you hand in those last remaining assignments and make preparations for next term before a well-deserved break. For over 1,000 of you, graduation is on the horizon and a celebration of all that you have achieved throughout your time at Royal Holloway. I look forward to meeting you at those ceremonies, and hope that you will come back and visit us in the future.

This term has been an exciting one, particularly with the opening of the Emily Wilding Davison Building, which brings together many services under one roof and improves the support available to you.  I know many of you appreciate the library being open 24/7 library and our Careers & Employability Service has seen more than a 100% increase in footfall, suggesting you are finding it easier to access the team’s help.  We are still in the early stages of settling into the Davison Building and are testing new ways of working. As with any new building, there are some adjustments and final touches that need to be made and we are prioritising the areas that matter the most to you.

There have been many successes this term and I’d like to highlight two; Congratulations to Insanity Radio which received the Gold Student Radio Award for Best Technical Achievement, and to ‘Team Shark,’ five students from the Department of Computer Science who won the Cisco University Challenge for 2017.

I hope you all enjoy your winter break, whether you remain on or around campus or go off to spend time with family and friends.  I look forward to welcoming you back in 2018.
