Today (11 February) marks the beginning of national
Student Volunteering Week, which continues until Sunday 17 February. The purpose of the week is to showcase student volunteering and inspire more people to get involved in bringing about positive change.
Volunteering is an important aspect of student life here at Royal Holloway and with 11,116 hours of volunteering recorded by our students in 2017/18, I am always very impressed by the amount of time you give, your creativity and your generosity.
Throughout Student Volunteering Week, our award-winning Volunteering team will be running an
event each day, focusing on all of the different aspects of volunteering that you can get involved in, on campus and in the local community. For example, on Friday (15 February), you can attend the opening of Community Research at The Lit in Egham. This is an opportunity to find out about the local community partners who are looking for support. Helping out in the local area is a rewarding way of giving back to the community that we all belong to.
During Student Volunteering Week, the Volunteering team are also looking for students to
take on their 2019/20 leadership roles. Participating in voluntary roles alongside your studies will help you develop skills that will enhance your CV and give you an insight into lots of new opportunities and experiences.
Over the next few weeks, you can also
apply for other paid and voluntary roles on campus. By taking advantage of these roles offered during your time here, you can stand out to employers, helping you to succeed in life beyond our campus, in whichever field you choose.
