I hope that you will make the most of your time here at Royal Holloway, but I would also like to encourage you to think about life beyond campus.
Your degree from Royal Holloway will demonstrate your academic qualities and achievements to potential employers. In addition, employers are looking for you to demonstrate how you have expanded other skills during your studies, for example communication skills, resilience and the ability to work in a team and perhaps lead it.
Our graduates tell us that taking part in activities such as volunteering, a placement, working a part-time job alongside their studies or joining a sports club or society both enriched their experience at university, and provided them with skills that employers value. It is never too early to start exploring these opportunities; you will be developing your skills and a network outside of your academic department.
Deciding what to do after graduation will be unique to you. Perhaps you already know what you want to do and are set on a plan, others among you may have identified strengths and are looking to identify how you might build on them after graduation, some of you may be looking for ideas and inspiration.
Whatever stage you are at, there is support and advice available to you. I would encourage you to look on the
student intranet for detailed information. The Careers and Placements Fair on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 October is an opportunity to speak to employers and explore a wide range of options available to you. Our Careers and Employability team will be there on both days to answer your questions and and discuss your choices. I hope you will make the most of this valuable opportunity.
