Thanks for testing data protection

The Government expects us to monitor and encourage compliance with the asymptomatic testing regime. To do this we need to take some basic information from you in the form of your student or staff card number. While this can be linked with your personal details we are not doing so as part of the process we are completing.

At the asymptomatic testing site (ATS)

At the ATS you will be asked to scan your student or staff card. This registers the card number, the date, and the time scanned. This information will be retained for as long as the data is required by the college to respond to Government requirements.

The data will be processed to provide information on the numbers of people attending the ATS and the frequency they are doing so. This does not involve your personal data. The processing only considers the date, time, and card number.

Scanning your card at the ATS allows students to support their club or society of choice – if you do not scan your card we will be unable to donate for that visit.

Around campus

You may be asked to present your card to be scanned at various places around campus, including the library, teaching spaces, buses, food outlets, or other areas as required. This will register the card number, the date, and the time scanned. This information will be retained for as long as the data is required by the college to respond to government requirements.

The data will be processed to provide information on the numbers of people using various parts of campus and if they have scanned their card at the ATS. This does not involve your personal data. The processing only considers the date, time, and card number.

If you have attended a campus location, but not attended the ATS, you may be emailed a short summary of the College’s expectations, the reasons for testing, and the incentives to do so. This is achieved through your student or staff card number. This can be used as an email address without requiring your name.

Opting out

You can opt out of this process by asking that your card is not scanned. You will not be compelled to do so, although you can still be asked to show your card to a member of staff on request.
