What antivirus software should I use on my personal devices?

Antivirus software helps to protect your device against cyber threats. It detects and quarantines or deletes malicious software (malware) to stop it from causing harm to your device. Malware can steal or erase your data, so it’s important to put precautions in place to remain protected against such threats.

The University has antivirus software installed on all of its managed devices, but we do not provide licences for personal equipment.

Both Windows and Mac have in-built anti-virus software. You can find out more about these at the links below:

If your device does not support Windows Defender or X Protect, there are a wide variety of alternative providers available.

You can read more about staying cyber aware and protecting your devices on our cyber security pages.
