Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed your break and are rested and ready for the spring term.

2017 was quite a remarkable year for Royal Holloway.  We opened the Emily Wilding Davison Building, our biggest construction project on campus since Founder’s Building and a restatement of our ambition to provide you, our students, with the resources and support you need to succeed.

The Davison Building is very much in its infancy, and I’ve welcomed your feedback as we continue to fine tune the space so that it works for everyone.

Your timetable is now available on the Student Intranet, the Student Services Centre has extended opening hours and it and our Careers & Employability team are now at the heart of the campus, making it easier for you to access important services.

With the Library in the Davison Building open 24/7 and in response to student feedback represented through the Students’ Union, agreement was reached to open the Spring Rise Gate 24/7. The necessary construction work was finished over the holidays and the gate is now open 24/7 via swipe card access.

In February, we will invite you to share your favourite name for the new science building. We have shortlisted four names, from your suggestions last term; each person stands out for their role in bringing creativity, design or a multi-disciplinary approach to the advancement of science. The building itself will be open by the start of the autumn term.

Throughout 2018 I want to continue to develop our College so that it keeps pace with your needs and remains an inspiring environment where you can advance your knowledge and be successful in the goals you set for yourself.  I look forward to what we will achieve together.
